You Need a Job, America Needs Truck Drivers

In America, we take for granted the fact that the things we need are readily available. Food is on your grocer's shelves, your trash gets picked up on Tuesdays, and it's rare for a restaurant to run out of an ingredient. Having just about anything we want right at our fingertips at nearly all hours of the day is like breathing: we don't give a second thought to how it got there or who brought it. It's there, and that's all we care about.

Did you know that 70% of all goods transported in America are transported by truck? No, little elves didn't sneak in at night to put the food on the supermarket shelves, or medical supplies in the hospital storerooms. It was a trucker that did that. Things we take for granted now would not be available to us were it not for our nation's truck drivers, and the engineers and businessmen who literally paved the roads of the trucking and freight industries. So what would happen if our nation's deliveries suddenly didn't get where they need to go? After 3 days of no trash pickup, it becomes a sanitation problem. Speaking of oxygen supply, hospitals would begin running out by week 1. After only 4 weeks, our entire nation's water supply would be completely exhausted. So now you see how important the trucking industry is to America. Like a brain being deprived of air, our country would cease to function properly.

Right now, there is a shortage of truck drivers. Many people fear that pursuing a career in trucking will mean that they won't see their families for weeks on end. This may have been true in the past, but more and more companies are favoring a weekday/weekend schedule even for long-haul truckers. This is accomplished by basically creating a relay team, where are loads are passed off from one driver to another, so you never travel more than a certain distance from your home base. People also don't realize just how well a career in trucking can pay, especially if you receive your HazMat or other endorsements. The majority of companies offer full benefits packages as well.

Finally, we must point out that there are plenty of unemployed people for the job. When you add it up, there really is no need for there to be a shortage of professional truck drivers. Maybe you're considering getting your CDL because there's no work in your field at the moment. Or maybe you're thinking of making this a long-term career. Either way, it doesn't matter why you get your CDL, what matters is that you'll always have job security with that license. Whether it's something to fall back on, something to do part time to earn extra money, or it's your primary career. America needs trucking (and truckers) like people need air: a steady supply that never runs out.
