On the gravest of nights
filled with horror and dread...

We all know many of the traditional campfire stories that get passed around every Halloween: redrum, bloody Mary, etc... But there are many stories you haven't heard. Spending many long and endless hours on the road, truckers more than anyone know about the supernatural, haunted, paranormal activities that take place on America's highways, and Halloween is the perfect time to reveal these ghostly sightings and eerie happenings.

Haunted rest stops, spooky visitors and bizarre happenings on the road have been reported by truckers all over the country. Is it just imagination gone wild, after weary hours staring at lonely, dark roads? Or is it something more? There is certainly ample evidence and anecdotes to argue their reality. If you want to be scared off your pants while driving on Halloween night, here are some roads most frequently reported to be associated with some real scary happenings. Just in time for your midnight drive.

There is a small stretch on Kelly Road in Ohioville, Pennsylvania that has been the site of many supernatural events. Truckers have frequently reported that this dark road surrounded by dense forest on either side becomes alive at night with apparitions running towards the trucks while screaming. Along the same stretch of road, ghostly vehicles have been reported including school buses that are
driven by dark, demon-like figures. Another common occurrence on this stretch of road, also known as Mystery Mile, is that many tame animals suddenly become wild and rabid when coming to this road. Experts in paranormal activity suggest that perhaps this was an area of cult activity.

Another road with even more bizarre happenings is at "The Most Haunted Place in Ohio," known as Dead Man’s Curve (Clermont County, Ohio). The junction where 222 meets State route 125 has had more than its fair share of accidents. After a deadly accident of four teenagers in 1968, drivers began to report seeing faceless hitchhikers on the roads, white silhouettes of children crying and people in dark clothing trying to enter the passenger side of the truck This sharp bend in the road no longer exists due to road widening, but there continues to be an excessive number accidents nonetheless.

Highway 191 in Utah is another road notorious for supernatural events. Many truckers have reported apparitions and ghosts while driving in the dead of night. Often, there are blood curdling screams from these apparitions, who run alongside the trucks. It has been reported by several truckers that their tires have been slashed along this road. When they get out, they sometimes see floating objections which look like demons. Others have reported being chased by phantom headlights at a very high speed, before they suddenly disappear. In fact, there are so many frightening reports of activity on this particular road that many truckers prefer to find another route, especially on Halloween night.

New Jersey is famous for many negative things and one can now add Clinton Road in Passaic County as a site for weird happenings. Especially at midnight, at the bridge located on Dead Man’s curve, truckers have reported ghostly images of a boy in water who wants to play. Others have described Ghoul-like figures coming out of the water. In some cases, mutilated animals have been found along the side of the road.U.S. Route 2 going towards Haynesville, Maine is also associated with paranormal activity. Truckers have often reported of a female with a child looking for a ride in the dead of night. When the truckers have offered a ride, the female seemingly disappears while in the truck. In most cases, the female just stares ahead and does not speak. This road is eerily dark, quiet and sinister looking as if something is just going to jump out of the dense bushes.

There many, many more similar occurrences like these all over the country. Including in your own hometown. If you plan to drive this Halloween, make sure that there is enough diesel in the tank, the windows are closed... and there is plenty of underwear in your overnight bag.
